Job Description

Psychology Graduate - Mental Health Assistant

Are you ready to be the difference? Are you someone who sees behaviour as communication? Do you believe every child deserves a champion - especially when life has been tough?

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and enthusiastic Mental Health Assistant to join our specialist school community in September 2026.

Our school supports children and young people aged 5 to 16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of our pupils experience challenges linked to social communication difficulties, anxious attachments, trauma and early experiences of neglect. These experiences can impact learning, relationships and self-belief - and that's where you come in.

What Makes This Role Special?

This is not your typical classroom role.

You will:

* Be a trusted adult and consistent safe presence
* Support pupils to regulate emotions and develop coping strategies
* Help children build healthy relationships and social confidence
* Work alongside teachers and therapists to create nurturing, trauma-informed learning environments
* Support communication needs through patience, creativity and understanding
* Celebrate every small step forward - because here, progress looks different

You'll be part of a team that understands behaviour through a trauma-informed lens and believes connection comes before correction.

Who We're Looking For

Someone who is:

* Calm under pressure
* Emotionally intelligent
* Patient and empathetic
* Resilient and reflective
* Passionate about supporting vulnerable children

This role requires consistency, warmth and the ability to see beyond behaviour to the need underneath.

What this school offers

* A supportive and reflective staff team
* Ongoing training in trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice
* Opportunities for professional development
* A school community that prioritises wellbeing (for staff and students)
* The chance to make a tangible, lifelong difference

What you need to know

* Psychology Graduate
* Mental Health Assistant
* £90 - £110 per day
* Maidenhead based Specialist school
* September Start / ASAP Start
* Amazing psychology related experience

If you want to make a difference and are keen to gain some valuable experience along the way, apply now!
