Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Manufacturing, the primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that the project M-LightEn (the next generation of iStream) progresses from the current iStream Superlight (New iStream) technology from a technical and manufacturing perspective. The role also involves supporting Gordon Murray Group (GMG), Gordon Murray Advanced Engineering (GMAE), and Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) M-LightEn project teams to deliver future vehicle projects efficiently, cost-effectively, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
The main focus of the Manufacturing function is to develop and mature the New iStream technology from an engineering and manufacturing perspective. This includes enabling full production validation through Run@Rate, aiming for Start of Production as per the portfolio plan, and supporting the continual progression of the iStream process. The role involves working with GMAE engineering and GMA teams to implement the New iStream technology practically, sharing learnings possibly with Gordon Murray Technologies (GMT), and creating design and manufacturing guidelines for assembly of metallic nodes and composite parts as primary vehicle structures. The person will also be the practical composite assembly expert within the company.
* Provide innovative technical solutions to project requirements, with guidance from senior engineers when necessary.
* Support company events and activities.
* Collaborate with the Manufacturing Team to prepare concepts, layouts, analysis, and specifications for the assembly of composite parts to vehicle structures.
* Contribute data to Design, CAE, and other engineering activities.
* Lead manufacturing aspects of creating a trustworthy Digital Twin for iStream structures.
* Co-lead investigations into Additive Manufacturing solutions for iStream nodes, including benchmarking and insourcing opportunities.
* Support the M-LightEn team with manufacturing, assembly, and homologation feasible design solutions.
* Work with Engineering, Design, and Project Management to meet technical targets, schedules, and budgets.
* Design and release tooling, jigs, fixtures, and assembly equipment.
* Coordinate with the Prototype Workshop for design solutions and support during vehicle build phases.
* Manage own activities to deliver engineering outputs on time and within budget.
* Maintain and improve personal professional competence.
* Stay updated with OEM manufacturing processes, technologies, and supply chain strategies.
* Conduct meetings with suppliers and technical partners as required.
* Ensure tooling and fixtures are aligned and meet inspection standards.
* Present concepts and design status to internal and external stakeholders.
* Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, performance, and cost specifications.
* Develop effective engineering plans and schedules.
* Identify areas for continuous improvement.
* Lead the validation of New iStream manufacturing through Run@Rate activities.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
* Extensive experience in composite assembly engineering and management, including PPAP, PSW, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
* Deep knowledge of composite assembly techniques and processes, including bonding, adhesive, autoclave, and press forming.
* Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing technologies, including additive manufacturing for composites, is preferable.
