Maintenance Engineer - Bury St Edmunds
Location: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, UK
Contract: Permanent, 40 hours per week
Package: Salary £47,559 a year, pension contributions matched up to 10%, discretionary performance‑related bonus and flexible benefits.
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 3‑shift pattern (6am‑2pm, 8am‑4pm, 1pm‑9pm) with on‑call rota covering evenings and weekends.
What You’ll Do
* Always ensure the mechanical and electrical safety of the site.
* Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) using our Agility CMMS system.
* Respond quickly and safely to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
* Collaborate with operators to plan maintenance activities efficiently.
* Help manage spare parts inventory and ordering via our P2P system.
* Support energy‑saving initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
* Maintain excellent workshop housekeeping and support site hygiene standards.
* Supervise external contractors and maintain site safety controls (e.g., Permits to Work).
What You’ll Work With
* Drag chain and screw conveyors.
* Belt and bucket elevators.
* Boiler and steam plant.
* Pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
* Mixing and weighing machinery.
* Electrical control panels with inverters and PLCs.
Essential
* Multiskilled Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical) – C&G Level 3/HNC or equivalent.
* Proven experience in planned maintenance systems.
* Good knowledge of Health & Safety best practices.
* Logical analytical person with effective communication skills.
* Living within a 1‑hour radius of the site.
Desirable
* FMCG, food production, or lean/CI experience.
* IOSH or other safety qualifications.
* Certifications such as 18th Edition, BOAS, IPAF, PASMA, Confined Space, Forklift, Welding/Fabrication.
