The Vacancy

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our IT department as an SOC Engineer, within our Security Operations Centre on a full-time basis in our Glasgow office.

We are open to considering candidates on a part time or full-time basis.

What will your role look like?

As a SOC Engineer, you’ll be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking IT team, working within the Security Operations Centre. You’ll play a key role in monitoring and responding to security incidents, maintaining and enhancing our SIEM platform, and developing automation workflows that strengthen our security posture.

You’ll work closely with colleagues and the IT Network & Security Manager to support the delivery of the IT Business Plan, while gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include:

1. Responding to security incidents generated by the SIEM platform or reported via the service desk.
2. Developing and enhancing automation workflows for incident response using our SOAR tools or scripting languages.
3. Managing the day-to-day operations and configuration of the SIEM platform.
4. Produce clear documentation, including log configurations, incident runbooks, and automation processes.
5. Supporting cloud security initiatives and technologies.
6. Building strategic relationships with vendors and suppliers.
7. Evaluating and recommending new technologies related to Security Incident Event Management.
8. Driving continuous improvement to maintain ISO-27001 Information Security accreditation.
9. Adhering to and promoting the firm’s Information Security standards and policies.

10. SIEM Platforms – ideally Rapid7 or similar platforms
11. SOAR Technologies
12. Anti-Virus Solutions
13. Microsoft Office 365 (various modules)
14. Microsoft Defender Suite
15. Microsoft Azure

Desirable Technologies:

16. Firewalls
17. Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
18. Vulnerability Management tools
19. Scripting (PowerShell / Python)

To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have:

20. A strong interest in developing a career in security infrastructure and working with industry-leading technologies.
21. Experience implementing security infrastructure, particularly SIEM solutions.
22. Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python) and strong documentation skills.
23. A collaborative mindset and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
24. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and working with technology partners like Microsoft.
25. A degree in IT or equivalent experience.
26. Knowledge of security principles and information security management (ISO-27001).
27. Relevant certifications (e.g., Security+, Network+, Microsoft, Cisco, CEH) are beneficial but not essential.
