JOB OVERVIEW Manages Production Engineering department at the site. The Departments overall responsibility is to make sure that production processes and production equipment is established, qualified, maintained and improved with regards to both daily business and introduction of new products and value streams. The department also possesses subject matter expertise on core processes (e.g. laser splicing and laser cleaving) to enables the provision of leading-edge solutions. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the production equipment and processes to support Laser Production. Ensures that laser production is followed systematically and ensures documentation for the build is accurate and results in production of reliable and lasers that meet the specifications. Ensures new product build processes are documented and works to transition them to production Follows the strategic plans for the direction of the team. Accountable for managing projects that deliver on the organisation’s continuous improvement strategies. Builds and improves effective business project processes. Plans and prioritises projects, day to day requests and ensures implementation of objectives. Manages processes and systems and relevant databases. Maintains department documentation. Manages the team technically and professionally, setting priorities and expectations and tracking deliverables. Coordinates work to timely completion, leading by example. Maintains KPIs on department progress against objectives. Allocates resources and ensures efficient use of resources, highlighting area’s with insufficient resources or excess resources. Liaises between engineering and production team working collaboratively to create leading edge products. Ensures site knowledge and cross site consistency of processes. Works with other managers functionally, implementing future strategic plans. Presents results to Functional Leads. KEY INTERACTIONS Production Engineering sits between product development and production in the value chain therefore this key area interacts with both development and production teams. LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS Manages Strategic Plans relating to organisational objectives. Responsible for implementing Department level goals and KPIs. Sets individuals goals and KPIs. Responsible for Department level people priorities and initiatives. Reports on progress of people initiatives. Advises on and monitors policy. Guides the team on organisations expectations. Accountable for identifying and addressing gaps. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Relevant degree required. Relevant qualification an advantage. SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Team Management skills. Able to keep the team motivated. Excellent Problem Solving knowledge and skills including statistical process control. Creating project plans and action plans. Good documentation skills. Good communication skills, comfortable communicating to all levels and to multiple geographies. Knowledge in operations management, manufacturing engineering methods and new product introduction (Stage gate models, formal design reviews etc.) Understanding of the industry. Skilled understanding of laser processing applications. Knowledge in optics, sensing methods, relevant laser technologies. In Engineering and Optical Laser research and development. In lasers and photonics. Calm under pressure. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED More than five years of experience working within a management role in the function. Demonstrated experience managing a function – ideally in the context of multiple geographical regions. Experience of working within a production context. Experience working independently managing processes and systems. Experience of change management. Experience of complex technical projects. Customer management experience. Work in an international and fast paced environment. TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS Up to 10 % annually, potentially globally.
