Overview
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a dynamic and motivated Locum Consultant gastroenterologist to join our team of consultant gastroenterologists and gastrointestinal surgeons to provide an integrated digestive diseases service across north Cumbria. The North Cumbria GI Service is a new, cohesive and integrated department, combining gastroenterology and endoscopy, upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and emergency GI surgery. The successful candidate will join a team of gastroenterologists supported by nurse specialists in IBD & hepatology across North Cumbria NHS Trust. Sub specialty interest will be encouraged where this contributes to and complements the department and Trusts' service needs.
You must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT to be eligible for appointment to this post. While appointed to a base unit, all members are expected to contribute to all aspects of the general gastroenterology service across the Trust.
Main duties
The department has two dedicated GI wards within the Cumberland Infirmary at Carlisle for inpatient treatment. The plan is to co-locate all GI areas in the near future. There is a dedicated 3-room endoscopy unit at the Cumberland Infirmary and a new endoscopy unit at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven with 2 dedicated rooms in a new, state-of-the-art facility. A specialist GI physiology lab exists on both sites. The Trust has recently secured a national bid for a new 5-room Endoscopy Unit planned to open in 2025 at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
On-call commitment includes Out of Hours GI Bleed cover. The standard job plan attracts 10-12 PA per week.

* Contribute to all aspects of the general gastroenterology service across the Trust.
* Participate in endoscopy and outpatient clinics across the Trust as part of a cohesive GI service.
* Collaborate with gastroenterologists, surgeons, and nurse specialists in IBD and hepatology.
* Provide on-call Out of Hours GI Bleed cover as part of the on-call commitment.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications – Essential
* MBBS, MBChB or equivalent
* Full GMC or GDC registration
* Royal College Membership
* Consultant, SAS Doctor or General Practitioner
Desirable
* Management Qualification or an equivalent portfolio of evidence
* CCT or equivalent
* On the GMC Specialist Register
