About You:
We seek an individual with a strong work ethic and a safety-first attitude to join our team full-time. The role involves collecting residential waste, including recycling, garbage, and organics. It requires manual work, attention to detail, and good hand-eye coordination in all weather conditions. This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, with 35-45 hours per week and potential overtime.
Job Duties:
You will operate and load curbside waste collection vehicles along municipal streets and private communities safely and efficiently. Your responsibilities include completing daily routes, communicating effectively with team members, and ensuring routes are finished each day. You will work with other crews to maintain team performance and meet service expectations.
Day-to-day Tasks:
* Perform vehicle inspections before and after trips, reporting issues to operations
* Navigate various conditions, including tight spaces and obstacles
* Load collection vehicles by lifting resident containers (up to 55 lbs)
* Dump loaded trucks at designated sites following protocols
* Work hours vary based on route length, with overtime paid after 8 hours
Requirements:
* Valid BC Class 3 or Class 5 Driver’s License with Airbrakes Endorsement
* New commercial drivers are welcome to apply
* Excellent written and verbal English skills
* Understanding of commercial vehicles and hydraulic systems
* Comfortable working in a team and completing scheduled routes
* Ability to handle household waste materials including garbage and organics
Assets (not required):
* Industry experience in waste/recycling collection
* Knowledge of heavy-duty mechanics/diesel engines
* Familiarity with local roadways in Metro Vancouver
* Experience outdoors or in trades/services
Compensation and Benefits:
* Wage: $25-$27 per hour, depending on experience
