Job Title: Design Engineer
Location: Flexible (Warwick HQ with occasional national and international travel)
Job Type: Full-time
Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for mechanical design and innovation?
Join a dynamic engineering team driving forward cutting-edge solutions for architectural shading systems. We're looking for a Design Engineer with a strong background in mechanical design and product development to play a key role in shaping high-performance, manufacturable products from concept through to production.
About the Role
As a Design Engineer, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical engineering solutions for custom and standard shading systems, including blinds and facades. You'll collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders—clients, suppliers, manufacturers, and contractors—to ensure efficient, robust, and cost-effective designs.
You’ll also contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and mentor junior engineers to help grow technical capability within the team.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical system design and development from concept to manufacture.
* Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) processes.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and suppliers to deliver innovative solutions.
* Design and refine production tools, equipment, and manufacturing methods.
* Interpret and work with architectural and engineering drawings.
* Oversee major engineering projects and feasibility studies.
* Conduct experiments and system modelling to validate performance.
* Improve internal processes in line with industry best practices.
* Mentor and support junior engineers and ensure project documentation is thorough and current.
* Assist with technical input on bids and project pitches.
What We're Looking For
Skills & Characteristics
* Highly resourceful with a hands-on, pragmatic approach to engineering challenges.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Strong organisational and time management skills—able to juggle multiple priorities.
* Collaborative team player with leadership potential.
* Detail-oriented and reliable with a results-driven mindset.
Knowledge & Experience
* Solid mechanical engineering background, ideally with experience in construction products (e.g. windows, doors, façades).
* Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and CAM.
* Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA).
* Familiarity with manufacturing techniques including CNC, additive manufacturing, laser processing, and robotics.
* Experience working with architectural drawings and integrating mechanical systems into building projects.
* Proven ability to lead engineering activities such as FMEA, design reviews, and risk assessments.
