Overview
Senior Occupational Therapist Brain Injury Team, Band 6. The closing date is 08 October 2025.
We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Occupational Therapist with specialist knowledge and skills in Acquired Brain Injury. The postholder will work alongside existing OT staff (Band 7) and the multidisciplinary team to provide an outstanding service to Brain Injury inpatients and outpatients within Gloucestershire (3.5 days) and provide therapy for the Acquired Brain Injury re-ablement beds at Whittington House (1.5 days). The post requires excellent communication, specialist clinical skills and experience in training and developing other staff. The post holder must also enjoy embracing the challenges of this complex client group. The ability to work well as part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team is essential.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver therapeutic interventions, acting as a specialist clinician, using the principles of Occupational Therapy in an integrated and client-centred way.
* The post holder will link with the Band 7 clinical lead therapist to support the use of resources within budget.
* Participate in the supervision, caseload monitoring and clinical education of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduate students.
* Assume responsibility for personal development and support in the development and supervision of others by CPD.
* Support evaluation and service development in the clinical area in line with national and local drivers.
* Be responsible for the organisation of own caseload and appropriately delegate to other staff members.
* Communicate with the MDT to aid effective patient care.
* Maintain clear, accurate and concise patient records in line with departmental and professional standards including relevant outcome measures.
* Support audit and research projects, to further own and team's clinical practice.
* Contribute to the Clinical Governance and Quality agenda.
* Participate in the out of hours service at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and/or Cheltenham General Hospital after appropriate induction and training as required.
* Comply with Trust and Departmental policies and procedures.
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers potentially complex, sensitive or distressing information.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
* Experience of working in the NHS in the UK
* Experience working in Neurosciences
* Experience of supervising, appraising, and providing education/training to others
* Demonstrate working effectively as a team member within the Multidisciplinary team
* Facilitate own learning opportunities and reflect on practice.
* Work flexibly in response to the changing demands of the service and manage changes in service delivery in self and others.
* Valid UK Driving License
* Have an understanding of the principles of physiotherapy as well as occupational therapy in order to contribute to the development of an integrated therapy service
* Experience working in brain injury
