Job Summary
:
In this role, you will manage the organization and direction of project construction activities and oversee total site management including supervision of construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, and finance and accounting. Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and clients are satisfied.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”
Major Responsibilities:
As the Airfield Project Manager, you’ll be at the heart of leading the development and delivery of this critical, exciting component of the programme, managing the execution from concept to completion, You’ll lead with precision, creativity, and a commitment to safety and sustainability. Every day will bring fresh challenges - and the opportunity to leave your mark on projects that make the difference. Your specific rresponsibilities will include:
1. Working with the Customer and other stakeholders, establish an agreed project baseline (scope, schedule, budget and execution methodologies), and then execute against it
2. Develop, nurture and support your team, to foster a high-performing and motivated team
3. Develop trusted relations with associated stakeholders, third parties and suppliers
4. Lead and coordinate all aspects of the airfield scope within the programme, ensuring all requirements are fully defined, integrated, and managed.
5. Lead planning, design, management, interface management and onstruction management, related to airfield works, including pavements, drainage, lighting, and navigation aids.
6. Coordinates all project contractual activities and participates in the development of contract, subcontract, or vendor scopes of work, budgets, contract formation,and negotiations
7. Establishes and ensures compliance with project procedures necessary to perform construction in accordance with project technical requirements
8. Manage and provide direction to various multidisciplinary teams to deliver engineering and construction packages.
9. Ensure compliance with applicable aviation standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., CAA, ICAO, EASA).
10. Coordinate with client, consultants, contractors, and internal Bechtel functions to resolve design, technical, and operational issues.
11. Identify and mitigate project risks related to airfield operations and safety.
12. Support stakeholder engagement and provide technical input to support approvals and permits.
13. Integrate the Airfield scope with other areas of the programme
14. Proven technical expertise, and know when to reach out for support from other Bechtel SME’s
15. Plans and implements procedures to ensure construction operations are continuously
16. adhering to engineering designs, specifications, quality standards, schedules, and budget.
17. Ensures the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into all aspects of construction operations
18. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance
19. Requirements for airfield elements
20. Responsible for staffing decisions, performance appraisals, and pay reviews
Education and Experience Requirements:
21. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience
22. Demonstrated understanding of airfield engineering, including pavements, drainage, lighting, and associated systems.
23. Proven experience managing projects in live operational environments.
24. Strong knowledge of applicable aviation design standards and safety regulations.
25. Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
26. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
27. Previous Bechtel experience
28. Experience on UK airport infrastructure projects or with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requirements.
29. Experience with digital design tools, construction management systems, and 3D design coordination.
