Job Description

New Directions Education is currently recruiting a Trainee Teaching Assistant to work on a one-to-one basis with students in Key Stage 2 & 3, at a welcoming and supportive SEMH school in Ellesmere Port

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in education, particularly those from care, nursing, health and social care, or similar backgrounds with transferable skills.

About the Role:

1. Provide 1:1 support for students in KS2&3 helping them engage with learning and daily routines.
2. Use simple communication strategies, including visual supports, gestures, and routine-based activities.
3. Support the pupil’s emotional regulation, independence, and social development within a structured and nurturing environment.
4. Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement an individual support plan tailored to the pupil’s needs.

No previous school-based experience is required – full guidance and ongoing support will be provided for the right candidate.

Ideal Candidates Will Be:

5. From a care, nursing, support work, or similar background where they’ve supported individuals with additional or complex needs.
6. Willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and register with the Update Service, if not already completed.
7. Able to provide employment references covering the last 5 years.
