Software Engineer – Back-end (Java/Python/BPEL)

Overview
We have a requirement for a security‑cleared Software Engineer based in the UK working at our Farnborough site and remotely. Leidos has more than 30 years’ experience of developing and running some of the largest government systems in the world. We are currently hiring to expand our UK‑based technical team who support delivery for the UK Government.
As part of the Leidos team you will support the development and transition into live of a new IT application and infrastructure solution providing support to a critical operational end user.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Provide DevOps skills engaging in a scrum team, being an active part of its delivery and continuous improvement.
* Develop, test, document and deploy elements of the solution and ensure knowledge transfer is appropriate for the movement into service.
* Work with delivery teams to design, implement and integrate modern, scalable products using a range of existing, new and emerging technologies.
* Collaborate with the wider teams seeking to learn and improve with every sprint.
* Communicate effectively across organisational, technical and political boundaries, understanding the context of the delivery.
Who You Are
* Experience with agile software development methodologies, working in a scrum team, estimation, ticket creation and management, engagement in demos, retrospectives and continuous process improvement.
* Understanding and experience of the importance of secure by design and delivering within a secure environment.
* Good knowledge & experience with development in Java, Python, BPEL.
* Good experience of containerisation concepts and tools such as Docker and Kubernetes (AKS).
* An understanding of DevOps tooling including Ansible, Jenkins and other pipeline technologies.
* Experience of system integration methodologies.
* Good knowledge of API development and management, including rigorous test and assurance processes.
* Good general knowledge of networking technologies including load balancing, firewalls, SMTP, DHCP and DNS.
* Good knowledge of Windows Server Environments, including OS build, AD integration from design to implementation and support.
* Good knowledge of Linux Environments and networking protocols/functions (e.g., HTTP, HTTPS, SSL/TLS, SMTP, DNS).
* Good general knowledge of Microsoft stack technologies such as M365, MS Exchange & CLI tooling such as PowerShell.
* General knowledge of database technologies such as MS SQL, PostgreSQL and Cassandra.
* Experience with web services, APIs and data distribution protocols.
* Experience of building, developing and configuring cloud infrastructure.
* Good analytical and problem‑solving skills, taking ownership of complex incidents ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer.
* Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary
£47,500.00 – £60,900.00 (gross per annum). This is a general guideline only.
