Minimum education requirements
* An accredited Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate engineering, computing, or scientific subject. Other degrees might be accepted at the discretion of the Engineer Specialist; please apply and this will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
* Applicants must also have a GCSE at Grade C/4 or Scottish National 5 at Grade C in English Language.
Requirements
* Be aged 21 – 47 years old (Must attest before 48th birthday).
* You must be a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland, holder of dual UK/other nationality, or have been a Commonwealth citizen since birth (with ‘right to work’ immigration status).
* Pass the Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre.
* Pass a Fitness test - Details below.
Reserve role locations
Reserve roles exist in specific reserve squadrons, which are located at specific RAF bases. Geographic proximity to where you live is important. These are the bases where this role is active: 600 Sqn, RAF Northolt, Middlesex; 606 Sqn, RAF Benson, Oxon; 611 Sqn, RAF Woodvale, Merseyside; 614 Sqn, Cardiff.
Career, Training & Education
Your success is vital to our success. You will receive basic and specialist training, with options for further education. The RAF experience prepares you for top roles both in the UK and overseas.
Initial Officer training at RAF Cranwell lasts 24 weeks, focusing on military skills, leadership, and management.
Specialist training at RAF Cosford lasts 19 weeks, preparing you for your Junior Officer tour, with options for a BSc (Hons) degree in Communications Engineering Management.
As a Junior Officer, you'll lead teams and manage their welfare during tours lasting 2-3 years.
Career progression includes automatic promotion to Flight Lieutenant, with opportunities in various roles, including working within headquarters, overseas operations, Defence Intelligence, or supporting aircraft systems.
Personal development includes opportunities for further education, professional engineering accreditation, and leadership training.
Joining the RAF as a Reserve involves commitments of 27 days per year, with deployments possible overseas for up to 6 months after the first year.
Application process includes interviews, health and fitness assessments, and familiarisation visits, culminating in a provisional offer of service and training.
You must be aged 21 – 47, with the necessary educational and nationality requirements, and meet fitness standards.
