About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a visually impaired child aged 5+, supporting their educational journey within a vibrant and inclusive school environment. You will play a pivotal role in enabling access to learning, adapting materials, and promoting independence, confidence, and curiosity.
Your Key Responsibilities
1. Provide tailored 1:1 support to a visually impaired child, both in and outside the classroom
2. Modify and adapt resources to ensure accessibility across the curriculum
3. Work closely with the class teacher, SENDCo, and external specialists to deliver individualised learning plans
4. Support mobility and orientation as needed, encouraging safe and confident movement throughout the school
5. Foster emotional wellbeing, communication, and self-esteem in a nurturing and structured way
What We’re Looking For
6. Proven experience supporting children with visual impairments, particularly aged 5 and above
7. Strong knowledge of strategies and resources for children with VI needs (, braille, large print, tactile materials, assistive tech)
8. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to learning support
9. Experience working within a school or early years setting
10. Relevant qualifications in supporting children with SEN (desirable but not essential)
