PERSON SPECIFICATION NOTES TO JOB APPLICANTS You must clearly demonstrate on your application form under each question, how, and to what extent you meet the required criteria as failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted. You should clearly demonstrate this for both the essential and desirable criteria, where relevant. In the event of an excessive number of applications, the Selection Panel also reserves the right to apply any desirable criteria as outlined in Section 3 at shortlisting, in which case these will be applied in the order listed. SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA The following are essential criteria which will initially be measured at the shortlisting stage and which may also be further explored during the interview/selection stage. Factor Essential Criteria Method of Assessment Qualifications/ Professional Membership At the date of taking up appointment hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland. At the date of taking up appointment hold a degree in a sports related qualification (minimum 2:2 honours) or equivalent level 6 qualification or teaching qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach Physical Education as their main subject. Shortlisting by Application Form Experience Minimum of 1 years' demonstrable experience of teaching Key Stage 3 Physical Education in a post primary school. Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective approaches to achieve high outcomes for young people of all abilities. Experience of coaching a range of sports within an extra-curricular setting to include netball and football. Minimum of 1 years' experience teaching BTEC Level 1/2 Award in Sport and/or BTEC Level 3 Nationals in sport (Extended Certificate, Diploma or extended Diploma). Pre-employment Check SECTION 2 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA The following are additional essential criteria which will be measured during the interview/selection stage. Factor Essential Criteria Method of Assessment Knowledge Demonstrable knowledge of the up to date specifications in AQA, GCSE PE and BTEC Level 1/2 and 3 in Sport. Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners. Demonstrable knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching and learning. Interview Skills / Abilities Effective classroom management skills and an understanding of current best practice to inspire and challenge pupils to raise standards of achievement. Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents/carers and the wider community. Ability to establish sound procedures to ensure good behaviour and discipline within the classroom. Interview Personal Qualities A commitment to raising standards. A hard working, enthusiastic, organised and dedicated professional. Be committed to the holistic development of young people. Factor Desirable Criteria Method of Assessment Qualifications and Experience Minimum of 1 years experience of teaching GCSE PE (Practical and/or theoretical units). Minimum of 1 years experience of teaching OS Sport (Unit 51 & 52) Environment & Society. Demonstrate either through experience or qualification the ability to contribute to the extra-curricular programme in Sport, Duke of Edinburgh's award and King's Trust. Shortlisting by Application Form DISCLOSURE OF CRIMINAL BACKGROUND The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people or in specified places as 'regulated activity'. In the event that you are recommended for appointed to a post that involves 'regulated activity', the Education Authority will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background.
