Contract Type: Fixed Term post until 31/12/2025 due to SPF funding

Hours: Full Time 37 hours per week

Location of post: Tir Morfa Centre, Marine Drive, Sandfields, Port Talbot, SA12 7NN

Do you have experience of working with young people and a passion to support them to live good lives? Can you manage and develop a range of Youth Work interventions and provide high quality support to young people at risk of/or experienced youth homelessness? If the answer is yes then we want you to join Neath Port Talbot Council as a Youth and Community Worker.

The successful candidate will be responsible for;

Providing Youth Work support that is holistic, person centred, trauma informed, and needs led for young people aged 11 – 25 years old who are at risk of/or have experienced homelessness in Neath Port Talbot.

The aim of the project is in line with Welsh government’s vision that homelessness is brief, rare and unrepeated.

The main duties of the post;

1. Develop and deliver a range of Youth Work interventions for children and young people aged 11 – 18 years old living in temporary accommodation due to family homelessness.
2. Provide a range of preventative support to 18 - 25 year olds who are at imminent risk of experiencing youth homelessness with the aim of preventing an occurrence of homelessness.
3. Work with young people aged 16 - 25 years old who have experienced homelessness and move with them through other services and providers including the transition from Children to Adult Services, being a consistent and trusted adult in their journey.
4. Maintain a caseload and ensure satisfactory outcomes for young people by direct intervention, by developing support mechanisms and, when necessary, by referring the individual to specialists for help.
5. Ensure that robust and accurate record keeping is embedded within the project, ensuring all evidence and paperwork meets Youth Service and funding requirements.
6. To work collaboratively with a range of organisations and partners to contribute to the aims and objectives of relevant national, regional and local priorities.
7. To ensure the delivery of high-quality youth work by following and implementing the service’s quality assurance procedures incorporating the following documentation: project proposals, session records and contact logs, registration and evaluation forms.
8. To work flexible working patterns, including evenings and weekend work as required.
9. To attend an annual appraisal and additional supervision when necessary.
10. To attend and contribute to meetings as required.
11. To assist in the collection of appropriate monitoring information and to provide managers and funders with regular verbal and written updates.
12. To undertake continual professional development accessing internal and external training opportunities where appropriate.
13. To ensure that the Corporate Health and Safety Policy is adhered to and that suitable action is taken regarding any issues or hazards, including the risk assessment of activities, equipment and premises and reporting of accidents/ incidents.
14. To inform line management of any concerns which may result in the implementation of Local Authority policies, such as child protection/safeguarding, grievances, complaints or disciplinary.
15. To actively promote equality of opportunity and diversity in all aspects of service delivery in accordance with Local Authority policies and procedures on equal opportunities, ensuring services meet the needs of disadvantaged and minority groups, whilst challenging any attitudes or behaviour that are contrary to it.
16. To carry out other relevant associated duties as may arise from time to time in full accordance with the authorities’ policies and procedures.

You will have experience of;

17. Experience of working with young people aged 11 – 25 years old in a non-formal/informal setting.
18. Experience of planning and delivering 1-1 sessions and group work activities.
19. Experience of supporting young people through partnership working with other key professionals.

Ideally you will have experience of;

20. Experience of working with families as part of the support for young people.
21. Experience of supporting young people with their housing needs and guiding them through their journey into independent living.
22. Experience of supporting young people to develop a range of life skills to enable them to thrive as young adults.
23. Experience of supporting young people living in temporary accommodation with their family to overcome any difficulties they may be facing.

Ideally you will have;

24. 4 GCE/GCSEs (Grades A-C) or equivalent
25. The relevant national youth work qualification required for registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
26. Although it is essential to have a national youth work qualification to apply for this post, if you do not have one, we will consider applicants who are prepared to achieve the appropriate nationally recognised Youth Work Qualification within 2 years of being appointed into the role.
