The role
Our client, a leading consultancy in the civil engineering sector, is currently seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join their team. This is a permanent role focused on delivering a diverse range of development schemes across the UK, including commercial, residential, healthcare, and education projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Designing highways in accordance with relevant standards such as Local Highway Authority guidance, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, DMRB, and NRSWA
Designing drainage systems in line with Sewerage Sector Guidance, the Code for Adoption Agreements, and The SuDS Manual (CIRIA C753)
Undertaking the design of public realm, active travel, cycling infrastructure improvements, major highways, and utilities coordination
Managing site monitoring and assisting in the production of fee proposals and bids
Liaising and negotiating with highway and planning authorities to agree on proposed designs
Coordinating highway and drainage adoption processes including S278, S38, and S104 agreements
Producing technical reports and attending meetings with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities, and other statutory bodies to discuss project issues
Job Requirements:
Experience in providing high-quality design input across various projects, ensuring compliance with current legislation, best practice, and local authority policies
Experience in the design of commercial and residential developments, public realm design, traffic management, and utilities infrastructure
Sound understanding of national design standards such as highway and drainage adoption agreements
Proficiency in industry software including AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Site 3D, Causeway Flow (or InfoDrainage), Vehicle Tracking, and KeyLINES/SIGN/POST
Experience in earthworks design, including cut and fill analysis
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Excellent time management and organisational abilities with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
Degree in Civil Engineering (or similar) and working towards or holding a professional qualification (Incorporated or Chartered)
