Job overview

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and well motivated individuals to join our team providing high quality, compassionate care to our patients. We also welcome applications from people with minimal or no Phlebotomy experience providing they have other required attributes.

The successful candidates will be required to undertake a wide range of duties appropriate to the Phlebotomy section but will mainly be involved with the collection of blood samples by venepuncture for analysis from hospital wards, outpatients, primary care and community clinics.

We currently have hours available at our Morriston, Singleton, Neath Port Talbot Hospitals as well as NPT resource centre, Gorseinon Hospital and Central Clinic. Successful candidates will need to be able to cover any of these sites.

The successful candidates will be required to participate in the weekend / bank holiday rota. You will be required to travel between sites in a timely manner.

Having a blood test done is often an essential step in a patients diagnosis or treatment and the care we give makes a real difference to this journey.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
2. Evidence of maintaining their personal development
3. Demonstrates an understanding of the scope of the role in the context of the clinical team
4. Knowledge of the fundamentals aspects of care and the importance of the promotion of health and wellbeing
5. Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements
6. Understands the principles of - confidentiality, consent prior to undertaking care, when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate registered professional for expert help and advice Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe,
7. Understanding of the Health Board’s Values and Behaviour Framework

Desirable criteria

8. Vocational qualification in a healthcare related subject.
9. Basic First aid qualification
10. ECDL or equivalent
11. Vocational Qualification level 3 in relation to a relevant Healthcare Science subject Or Attainment of SBU Health Board Phlebotomy Training Modules to Intermediate Level & Attainment of Advanced Phlebotomist training modules.
12. Experience in Phlebotomy.

17. Relevant experience of working in a hospital environment.
