An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse or operating department practitioner to work as a Band 6 Pre‑Op Practitioner in the Pre‑Operative Assessment department at King’s Mill Hospital. The role covers assessment for orthopaedic, podiatry, gynaecology, breast, urology, ENT and general surgery. There are also innovative initiatives underway that will shape future service delivery.
As an individual, you will need to be dynamic, enthusiastic, senior, ambitious, and willing to learn. You will work with the entire team to support the Sister in leading the department into the future.
This role involves assessing a patient’s fitness for anaesthesia in elective surgery using a holistic approach, possibly referring patients to other specialties if further tests are required. A significant degree of autonomy is necessary as we operate as a fully nurse‑led service.
* Manage a continuous caseload of patients and guide them through their surgical journey while optimising their readiness for the procedure.
* Assess a patient’s fitness for anaesthesia using a holistic approach.
* Refer patients to different specialties if further tests are required.
* Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and the team to ensure seamless care.
* Maintain good teamwork, time‑management and professional conduct at all times.
