This is a hands on Management Accountant role sitting at the centre of the business. The focus is on producing accurate, timely and commercially useful financial information that directly supports decision making at MD and leadership level.

Thurn Partners is a high performance recruitment business operating across the UK and US, with multiple revenue lines, differing fee structures, long sales cycles in executive search, and a growing US platform. The role goes well beyond month end. You will be expected to understand how the business actually makes money, track performance by desk and individual, and help the leadership team improve NFI per head, cash flow, and forecasting accuracy.

This is not a passive reporting role. We need someone who challenges numbers, spots issues early, and helps tighten commercial discipline across the business.

This long-term role is 3 days a week (2 in the office and 1 from home). The days of the week could be flexible, assuming good coverage over the week. As the business grows there could be scope to increase to full-time.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounts & Reporting
Produce monthly management accounts with clear commentary, not just numbers.
Own the P&L, balance sheet reconciliations, and cash flow reporting.
Track revenue, gross margin, NFI per head, and consultant level performance.
Analyse performance by desk, market, and geography, including UK vs US activity.
Review supplier spend and overheads, highlighting variances and risks early.
Prepare information packs for MD and senior leadership meetings.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Commercial Analysis
Build and maintain rolling forecasts, not just annual budgets.
Model different hiring, performance, and market scenarios.
Support strategic projects such as US expansion, cost base changes, and new initiatives.
Sense check revenue forecasts against pipeline reality.
Help the business understand the gap between plan and delivery, and why it exists.

Cash Flow, Invoicing & Controls
Own cash flow forecasting and short term liquidity visibility.
Set up and manage bank payments, approvals, and controls.
Support accurate and timely invoicing across UK and US entities.
Monitor debtor days and flag collection risks early.
Assist with VAT preparation, payroll journals, credit card postings, and supplier payments.

Systems, Process & Data Discipline
Improve the quality and reliability of financial data across systems.
Work with existing tools such as Xero and operational systems like Bullhorn.
Automate reporting where sensible, without breaking control.
Tighten month end timelines and reduce manual work over time.
Act as a finance point of reference for the wider business.

Stakeholder Support
Work closely with the MD, Head of Sales, and leadership team.
Translate financial data into plain English for non finance stakeholders.
Support managers in understanding performance and cost control.
Be comfortable pushing back when numbers do not stack up.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential
Qualified or part qualified accountant. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
Proven experience producing management accounts in a commercial environment.
Strong Excel skills and confidence working with imperfect data.
Comfortable operating in a fast moving, sales driven business.
High attention to detail with the ability to zoom out commercially.

Desirable
Experience in recruitment, professional services, or another sales led business.
Experience with Xero or similar cloud accounting systems.
Exposure to multi entity or international structures.

Comfortable with accountability and deadlines.
Continuous improvement mindset with low tolerance for sloppy data.
