PERMANENT ALN FOUNDATION LEARNING RESOURCE BASE TEACHER

Ysgol Sŵn y Don are seeking to appoint a passionate, nurturing and experienced teacher to support pupils in the ALN Foundation Learning Resource Base.

Applications are invited from experienced and committed teachers who have a strong understanding of Additional Learning Needs and are committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive provision informed by Foundation Learning principles and the Curriculum for Wales, placing wellbeing, nurture and individual progress at the heart of teaching and learning.

The successful applicants will:

Be experienced in teaching pupils across a range of ages and abilities, particulary within Early Years and Foundation Learning, with a secure understanding of its pedagogy and developmentally appropriate practice.

Demonstrate a clear understanding of how Foundation Learning principles have evolved within the Curriculum for Wales, planning learning that develops the four purposes through active, experiential and meaningful learning opportunities.

Where appropriate, have experience of supporting learners working at the earliest stages of development, including the use of Routes for Learniing to recognise and celebrate progress for learners with profound and multiple learning needs.

Demonstrates strong skill in observation‑led planning and assessment, ensuring that learner progress is captured through small, meaningful steps in engagement, communication, wellbeing, and independence.

Demonstrate effective classroom organisation and behaviour management skills, maintaining a strong, calm, consistant and nurturing classroom presence, appropriate for learners with additional and more complex needs.

Have experience of supporting learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) through the use of adaptive teaching approaches, targeted interventions and inclusive strategies that promote progress, self‑regulation and wellbeing.

Have a secure understanding of Person-Centred Practice (PCP) and experience of contributing to, writing, implementing and reviewing Individual Development Plans (IDP's) in partnership with learners (where appropriate), families and multi‑agency professionals.

Be confident in, or willing to train and develop confidence in, using local authority systems, including ECLIPSE, to record, review and monitor pupil needs, provision and progress.

Demonstrate the ability to liase effectively with parents/carers, external professionals and agencies, contributing positively to multi‑disciplinary working and meetings.

Meet the requirements of the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leardership, demonstrating reflective, research‑informed and ethical practice.

Work effectively both independently, using own initiative, and collaboratively as part of a strong and supportive school team.

Be reliable, resilient, flexible and proactive, demonstrating a solution‑focused and child‑centred approach to their role.

We are looking for:

Demonstrates oustanding classroom practice and the ability to motivate, inspire and engage learners through creative, sensory, practical and play‑based approaches.

Has a strong understanding of pastoral care, nurture and emotional wellbeing, particularly within a Foundation Learning or ALN resource base context.

Is committed to inclusion, equity and pupil empowerment, placing the welfare of pupils and their families at the heart of all aspects of practice.

Works effectively as part of our strong school team and contributes fully to the wider life of the school, including enrichment opportunities.

Shows warmth, empathy and professionalism when supporting pupils with complex needs.

Desirable qualities and skills:

Secure knowledge of assessment, progression and the use of professional judgement within Foundation Learning and the Curriculum for Wales.

Experience of, or interest in, ICT and the Digital Competence Framework (DCF) to support learning, communication and engagement.

The ability to contribute to or lead whole‑school initiatives, using collaboration and research‑informed practice to support continuous improvement.

The ability to teach and communicate effectively through the medium

Welsh is desirable for this post. Due to the nature of the post the successful candidate will be subject to a disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service. It is a requirement that successful candidate will need to register with the Education Workforce Council prior to commencing employment
