This role is suitable for registered Pharmacy Technicians, or those due to qualify within 3 months of the June interview date, looking to start their Pharmacy career in a hospital environment.
We welcome Pharmacy Technicians currently working in Hospital, Community or the Primary Care sector wishing to expand their knowledge and develop their leadership skills.
You will rotate around the department in areas such as Patient Services, Supply Services, Quality Assurance, Clinical Trials, and Anticoagulant Monitoring Service.
Candidates requiring Medicines Optimisation and Final Accuracy Checking qualifications will be fully supported with training and will progress to Band 5 upon completion.
Main duties of the job
* Participate in a scheduled rotation through all sections of the pharmacy department.
* Undertake dispensing of prescriptions in an accurate and timely manner and use professional knowledge to ensure that such duties are performed in accordance with Good Dispensing Practice.
* Process and check ward requisitions for controlled drugs.
* Maintain competency as an accuracy checking technician by performing dispensary duties.
* Support the delivery, development and implementation of all aspects of the clinical pharmacy service.
* Maintain competency as a medicines optimisation technician by performing clinical pharmacy duties.
* Provide supervision, support, mentorship and training to Pharmacy Assistants in both the dispensary and clinical team.
* Act as a role model.
Carry out all duties in accordance to Trust policies and with regard to legal and safety requirements.
Applicants will have excellent communication and self‑management skills with the ability to prioritise their work.

This role provides operational support to the Pharmacy Patient Services Team (Dispensary and Clinical ward-based services) and is instrumental in supporting patient flow by delivering medicines optimisation at the patient’s bedside.

Essential criteria
* Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) / or eligible within the next 3 months.
* Final Accuracy Checking Technician (FACT) accreditation.
* Medicines Optimisation accreditation.
Work Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience working within primary or secondary care pharmacy setting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
* Proactive approach to application of knowledge gained to pharmaceutical practice.
* IT skills – pharmacy computer system, clinical software and standard PC office software.
* Demonstrate ongoing competencies for Final Accuracy Checking Technician accreditation.
* Demonstrate ongoing competence for Medicines Optimisation accreditation.

Working hours within 08:00‑19:00 Monday‑Friday, partaking in 1 in 6 weekend rota 09:00–17:00 plus bank holidays.

The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
