Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the unit, including budgetary oversight, clinical governance, and the delivery of staff development and training programmes. They will provide strong professional leadership within the clinical area, offering clear direction and inspirational guidance to all members of the multidisciplinary team for whom they are accountable.
You will lead the day-to-day management of the Haemodialysis Unit, while also supporting the Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) team. A key aspect of the role will involve continuously monitoring and improving the standards of patient care, ensuring the highest levels of safety, quality, and patient experience are consistently achieved.
You will play a pivotal role in workforce development, with responsibility for recruiting, developing, and retaining a highly skilled and motivated team. You will also foster a positive and supportive learning environment for both staff and students, promoting continuous professional development and excellence in practice.
As a visible and approachable leader, you will act as a role model for your team, providing highly specialised nursing expertise and advice. You will ensure that evidence-based, patient-centred care is delivered at all times, maintaining the highest professional standards across the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Take ongoing responsibility for the effective management of the Dialysis department and its staff, while also providing support to the Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) team.
2. Establish, maintain, and continuously monitor high standards of patient care, ensuring excellence and consistency in all aspects of service delivery.
3. Lead the recruitment and retention of a highly skilled, motivated workforce, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for both staff and students.
4. Provide expert, highly specialised nursing advice to ensure patients consistently receive safe, appropriate, and high-quality treatment and care.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
5. First level registered Nurse.
6. A proven track record of operational service management at senior band 6 level in an acute hospital environment, including staff management & financial management
7. Renal Course
8. Mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
9. Masters level qualification in nursing or a post graduate qualification is desirable but not essential.
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
10. Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them.
11. A strong sense of personal and team accountability coupled with a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority.
12. A good understanding of the changing NHS environment.
