Similarly initial reporting under consultant supervision will be confined to straightforward cases with a gradual increase in the trainee’s repertoire as experience and the necessary knowledge and skills are acquired. Reporting of diagnostic surgical work is carried out on a one‑to‑one basis with the supervising Consultant, and to begin with all cases and reports will be monitored by the supervising Consultant before reports are signed out. The degree of independence in this area will be tailored according to the trainee’s experience, diagnostic skills, and knowledge.
