Senior Residential Child Care Worker

Grade/Salary: Grade 7 (SCP 26–30) £37,280 – £40,777 per annum plus 10% alternating shift allowance and sleep ins (payable at £43.12 per sleep in).

Working Pattern: Full‑time, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep‑ins as required.

Location: White House Children's Home

The White House is a bespoke care home located on the boundary between Sunderland and South Tyneside. It has been created to provide a safe, nurturing environment for four children aged 11–17 who have complex needs arising from emotional and mental health difficulties and trauma. This unique service will care for:

* Two children from Sunderland
* Two children from South Tyneside

* Experienced in residential childcare or working with children with high and complex needs
* Able to lead a team confidently and model excellent practice
* Calm, resilient, and skilled at managing challenging situations
* Passionate about trauma‑informed, child‑centred care

* Committed to safeguarding and professional development


Key Responsibilities

* Act as shift leader, providing clear direction and support to carers.
* Supervise and appraise designated staff, promoting reflective practice and continuous development.
* Represent the home in the absence of the Registered or Deputy Manager.
* Support staff wellbeing and resilience, recognising the emotional demands of the role.
* Ensure smooth running of shifts, including planning rotas, activities, transport, and appointments.
* Agree and implement behaviour management strategies that promote safety, consistency, and emotional wellbeing.
* Liaise effectively with social workers, families, and other professionals to ensure joined‑up care.
* Be alert to signs of distress or abuse and act in accordance with safeguarding procedures.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
