Customs Manager

As a result of our expansion plans, and our continued ongoing success we are seeking a dynamic Customs Manager to be based at our Head Office in Plymouth.
About the Role:
An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a hardworking and pro-active individual to join The Range’s Import Department which deals with shipments in excess of 16,000 containers a year.
We're looking for a highly experienced and motivated candidate, with expansive Customs knowledge to join and enhance our team and the wider business, whilst developing new best practice for the future. We need a candidate with excellent attention to detail, who can demonstrate strong organisational, communication and IT skills (Excel specifically).
As a Customs Manager, you will be responsible for reviewing and implementing product classification, clearance, customs compliance & regulation checks to future proof the growing business. You will also engage with other key departments to assist in new operational requirements (ROI & EU shipments).
With at least 3 years proven customs management experience, the successful candidate must have in-depth working knowledge of customs matters for UK, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, including rules of importing, valuation of goods, tariff classification and origin preferences. You must have experience with UK Customs Warehouse procedures, as well as experience of Northern Ireland goods movements (TSS), as well as ROI importing.
Your application must show direct experience within the Import sector. With specific knowledge in the following areas:
1. Tariff Classifications (experienced with the online Tariff – UK & EU)
2. Customs Clearance Procedures including entry instructions
3. C88 & E2 documentation detail
4. Deferment & MSS Customs reports
5. Customs Warehousing procedures (including CFSP)
6. Importing and Exporting documentation requirements (Rules of Origin, Tariff Preferences & Anti-Dumping declarations etc.)
7. Customs compliance & certification requirements (NIRMS /APHA)
8. EU & UK Government regulations – EU/UK CBAM, EUDR
9. Northern Ireland – TSS
10. Republic of Ireland – EU import entries
The department is extremely busy, so the ability to multitask, whilst maintaining accuracy and high productivity is essential. The role will suit someone who enjoys a challenge and problem solving, is a team motivator, and who works best when under pressure. This role requires someone with the knowledge, confidence, and commitment to understand the business needs and drive its future progression.
Responsibilities:
11. Daily management and development of import customs team (currently 7 import team members working within this area)
12. Monitor/maintain team SOP & best practice
13. Tariff Classification & regulation reviews
14. ROI / EU documentation checks (Northern Ireland TSS / Republic of Ireland TAN)
15. Keeping up to date with latest HMRC and EU notices & regulations
16. Monitoring clearance compliance and performance in accordance with the CFSP / Customs Warehouse compliance requirements
17. Working with Port Health services, checks & supply of import pet food certificates
18. Supporting our customs bureau services
19. Supporting customs entry preparation & instructions (additional checks and audits to meet the CFSP / Customs Warehouse compliance requirements – including Origin Preferences and document declarations)
20. Checking & Monitoring of Customs Entries – Customs Software reporting, full clearance C88/E2/Deferment & MSS reports, for compliance checks (ensuring adjustments actioned accordingly)
21. Developing & maintaining own Customs knowledge, whilst contributing to the Customs & Product knowledge within the Imports Team and wider business
22. Providing training sessions, support and knowledge of Importing/Exporting requirements to other areas of the business where necessary
23. Developing and presenting Company Customs best business practices to support future growth
24. Project Management - Understanding and implementing regulations including EU/UK CBAM, EUDR
25. Monitoring import costs to the business, identifying best practice and cost savings
Person Specification:
26. Minimum of 3 years’ Customs Management experience working within the specified areas of responsibility listed above
27. Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency of work
28. Confidence and experience of using multiple data systems/analysing data sets
29. The ability to communicate effectively with a range stake holders
30. The ability to work calmly when under pressure
31. Leadership and team development skills
32. Commitment and confidence with strong administrative, organisational and prioritisation skills
33. Proficient written, numerical, analytical and IT skills, particularly Excel and a sound understanding of online Tariff & Customs packages
