Location: Hybrid Working – 1 day per week onsite at RH16 1SS
Contract: Permanent / Fixed-Term (to be agreed) (initially 6 months)
Rate: Negotiable, dependent upon experience. Please state your desired pay rate when applying.
Role Purpose
We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Data Protection Officer (DPO) to provide independent oversight of the Council’s compliance with data protection legislation and information governance requirements.
Reporting to the Assistant Director – Governance, the successful candidate will act as the Council’s designated Data Protection Officer in accordance with UK GDPR requirements, providing expert advice across the organisation, monitoring compliance, and serving as the principal point of contact with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). The role will also support and oversee the Council’s Freedom of Information (FOI) function.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the Council’s designated Data Protection Officer in accordance with Articles 37–39 of the UK GDPR.
Provide independent, expert advice to elected Members, senior management, and officers on data protection and privacy obligations.
Monitor organisational compliance through policies, procedures, training programmes, audits, and assurance reporting.
Oversee Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs), and data-sharing arrangements.
