Surge has an exciting, part-time job opportunity to join our small, creative team as a Project Assistant, providing administrative and practical support to Surge’s Producer and Director, across all our projects, two and a half days a week.
We run projects to develop outdoor arts, physical theatre and circus across Scotland, working with artists, performance companies and educators at all levels of experience. We also run the annual Surge Festival, which brings new Scottish work and cutting-edge international performances to the streets, theatres and unusual spaces of Glasgow.

About Surge:
Surge runs projects to develop street arts, physical theatre and circus in Scotland. We work with artists, performance companies and educators at all levels of experience.
We also run Surge Festival, our annual event, which takes place each August, which brings new Scottish work and cutting edge international performances to the streets, theatres and unusual spaces of Glasgow.
About the role:
The Project Assistant will provide administrative and practical support to Surge’s Producer and the Director across all projects. As part of a small team, they will provide support with the day-to-day running of the company and with the delivery of festivals and various elements of the artistic programme including bursaries, residencies and workshops.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist with the delivery of festivals and the whole artistic programme
* Assist with the delivery of specific projects and programmes as agreed with the Surge Director and Producers
* Administrative assistance with contracting of artists, companies and freelance staff
* Liaison with venues, partners, artists, guests and other stakeholders as required
* Assist in budgetary and financial management of projects
* Assist with arranging permissions and licenses
* Manage or arrange accommodation, travel and food as required by projects
* Assist in the writing of applications for funding
* Assist with environmental reporting and actioning of Surge’s environmental policy
* Stage management and running duties
* Any other reasonable duties as requested by Surge Director and/or Producers
Person Specification / Requirements
The ideal candidates will have an active interest in the arts – especially outdoor arts, physical theatre and circus – and an enthusiasm for learning behind the scenes, helping with festival production, volunteer coordination and engaging with artists. They should have a strong interest in Arts Management and Producing, with a particular enthusiasm for learning about the practical, administrative and financial elements.
Essential experience, skills and knowledge
* Experience of supporting the planning and delivery of professional arts events
* Excellent communicator both verbally & written
* Experience and ability of working within a small team
* Able to work on own initiative
* The ability to be flexible, organised, and good with systems
* Ability to prioritise a busy workload
* Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage a number of projects at the same time and with accuracy

* Competent in using Apple computers, MS Word and Excel
* Experience of supporting the planning and delivery of outdoor arts projects
* Experience of stage management
