Pencil Biosciences is a seed stage biotech company developing the novel Break FreeTM gene editing platform. The proprietary gene editing offers unique platform properties including an unparalleled safety profile with applications in therapeutics, diagnostics, and cell engineering.
As a Laboratory Technician you will use your experience of molecular biology to aid in the development of our gene editing technology. This is an important role, working in the research team, you will perform various laboratory-based tasks such as mammalian cell culture, NGS library preps, cloning and DNA preps, etc. You will have the opportunity to use cutting edge equipment and techniques in a friendly, supportive and energetic environment. You will drive forward such activities as:
* Mammalian cell culture, DNA transfections etc.
* Mammalian cell gene editing assays (e.g. CRISPR).
* Next/3rd generation sequencing library preparations.
* DNA plasmid cloning and purification.
* Develop optimised workflows and procedures to allow efficient R&D activities.
* Aid in the smooth running of the laboratory.
* Perform routine laboratory activities such as colony PCR, Sanger sequencing, media and buffer preparation, etc.
* Feed into the development/optimisation of screening techniques.
* Work together with other members of the research team, including wet lab scientists and computational biologists.
We would like to hear from you if you have
* Strong technical background in molecular biology with excellent organisational skills.
* Background in molecular cell biology, synthetic biology, or similar field.
* Min. 3 years relevant time spent in industry/academic with practical laboratory experience.
* A careful approach to lab work with meticulous attention to detail with excellent sterile technique.
* Experience of writing laboratory safety documentation.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, working across multiple projects/experiments simultaneously.
Cherries on the cake would be
* Additional experience such as NGS, assay development/performance or other relevant techniques would be a bonus.
* Hands on experience with gene editing technologies such as CRISPR.
