HR Advisor (Appraisal and Revalidation)

The closing date is 21 April 2026

The Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an experienced HR Advisor to support the delivery of appraisal and revalidation for the medical workforce. The role will be based at Whiston or Ormskirk Hospital, with occasional travel across sites.


Main duties

* Provide day‑to‑day appraisal and revalidation advice and guidance to medical staff and managers.
* Ensure timely completion of GMC connections, manage 360‑feedback processes, and support RO‑to‑RO information transfers.
* Coordinate and deliver workshops and training, including the 360‑feedback loop.
* Maintain accurate records, filing systems, monitoring trackers and intranet content.
* Assist in reviewing and developing appraisal and revalidation policies, risk frameworks, and external audit processes.
* Support key appraisal projects to enhance the employee experience and improve medical appraisal and revalidation services.


Person specification


Qualifications

* Degree level education or equivalent experience.
* CIPD Level 5 qualification or willingness to work towards.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Associate membership of CIPD.


Knowledge & Experience

* Working knowledge of medical revalidation processes.
* Planning and prioritisation skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, particularly with NHS senior managers and clinicians.
* Experience with senior medical leaders and in educational/medical administration.
* Facilitation, training and coaching in system use.
* Specialist knowledge of electronic record and learning management systems.
* Knowledge of regulatory frameworks for medical appraisal and revalidation.


Skills

* Data analysis and interpretation.
* Accurate record keeping.
* Advanced IT skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint (ECDL level or above).
* Self‑initiative, organisation and prioritisation under tight deadlines.
* Effective listening, negotiating and influencing.
* Adopting new technology and working practices.
* Managing the medical appraisal & revalidation process.
