Mental Health Social Worker (without AMHP status)
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is looking for a full‑time (37 hour) Social Worker to join the Community Mental Health Social Work Teams. The role offers a view to undertake AMHP training and involves supporting adults with mental health needs and young adults transitioning from care.
Responsibilities
* Duty and care management for assigned adults.
* Safeguarding investigations and outcomes focused assessments.
* Preparation of tribunal reports, hospital discharge plans and support planning.
* Assisting AMHPs on Mental Health Act assessments as a second worker.
* Carrying out mental capacity assessments, best‑interest decisions and support planning for working‑age adults with mental health needs and young adults transitioning from care.
* Utilising board‑pool cars where required, subject to risk assessment and licence check.
Qualifications
* Qualified social worker registered with Social Work England.
* Ideal: completed ASYE (supported if not yet attained).
* Knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Continuing Health Care, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Community DOLS/LPS and related legislation.
* Car driving licence and ability to travel within and outside the borough on short notice.
* Willingness to work unsocial hours as required by the service.
* Willingness to undertake AMHP training subject to service and university selection criteria.
