Job Summary
The main duties of this role is to provide general assistance for Diagnostic Procedures within the Diagnostic Imaging Department, with a high level of care, assistance and support to patients during their examination. It includes administration support, receiving telephone calls, booking patients onto the departmental computer system and uploading disks for the Radiologist to report, and assisting radiographers and Consultant Radiologists in the X‑ray department.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide administration support: reception duties, receiving telephone calls, booking patients onto the departmental computer system and uploading disks for the Radiologist to report.
* Provide assistance and support to the radiographers and Consultant Radiologists in the X‑ray department.
* Assist in preparation of imaging rooms prior to diagnostic examination.
* Assist the medical staff during various clinical examinations and procedures.
* Assist with the organisation of the workload of the department, responding to the needs of the service.
* Liaise and consult with other wards and departments to implement or plan patient requirements effectively.
* Communicate with various internal and external sources, both clinical and non‑clinical, e.g. clinicians, trust staff, directorate staff, and patients.
* Resolve queries from patients, departmental staff and service users.
* Maintain a clean and tidy department in accordance with departmental cleaning protocols.
* Report any equipment faults or problems to senior staff.
* Prepare and organise relevant documentation for diagnostic procedures, including obtaining case notes and administrative forms for speciality examinations.
* Plan and prioritise own workload to meet service demands.
* Monitor and request supplies of stock to ensure efficient running of the department.
* Book and send out appointments for diagnostic procedures, entering them onto the departmental computer system and into the departmental diary.
* Participate in departmental research and audits as and when required.
* Provide general assistance for diagnostic procedures within the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
* Provide a level of care, assistance, and support to patients during their radiological examination.
* Perform such duties as will aid the smooth running of the department and provide a high level of care.
* Be familiar with department administration services.
* Provide clinical assistance to the diagnostic services provided within the radiology department.
Qualifications & Skills
Applicants must possess the following:
* Present original certificates for qualifications at interview stage.
* Maths and English GCSE or functional skills.
* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate on a regular basis with all grades of hospital staff throughout the Trust.
* Good keyboard skills and experience in using basic computer packages, including hospital systems.
* Commitment, reliability, good organisational skills and a flexible approach to changing patterns of work.
Working Hours & Conditions
20 hours per week on a flexible contract across seven days. The role spans three sites: Wigan Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Leigh Infirmary and the Wrightington site. Candidates should have a flexible approach to working hours.
