Overview
Join Jacobs in Manchester, United Kingdom as a Principal Protection & Control (P&C) Design Engineer - UK Grid Network. You will be part of the Transmission & Distribution team working on high‑profile infrastructure projects, including HVDC, interconnectors, wind farms and substations, delivering smart, sustainable protection and control designs.
Responsibilities
* Design protection and control systems for electrical substations up to 400 kV for Transmission & Distribution clients.
* Prepare single line diagrams, key line diagrams, and interlocking schemes based on project requirements.
* Develop detailed electrical designs for equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnectors and earth switches.
* Ensure adherence to quality assurance processes as required.
* Deliver designs in accordance with contract specifications to the satisfaction of the client.
* Identify and manage relevant Health and Safety risks and hazards with the project team.
* Actively develop external and internal client relationships.
* Ensure adequate resources and training for FEED and detailed design work for National Grid, SSEN and other clients.
* Interface with other disciplines (Civil/Structural, Substations, HV Cables and OHL engineers).
Qualifications
* A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartered status.
* Experience in electrical disciplines and in delivering complex multi-disciplinary projects (e.g., Rail or Oil & Gas Refinery).
* Relevant professional experience in HV and LV systems (33 kV – 400 kV).
* Experience preparing design calculations, reports, and detailed drawings. CAD (AutoCAD or MicroStation) preferred but not essential.
