About the role Pay Details: Grade 4 SPC 5 - 7 £25,583-£26,403 Pro Rata £13.26 - £13.69 Per Hour Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 08:00 – 16:30 Main Place of Work: Various locations are around the Vale Description: The Street Scene Driver plays a central role in delivering a modern, proactive, and highly visible environmental service across the Vale of Glamorgan. As part of a place‑based operational team, the driver is responsible for operating a range of cleansing vehicles and equipment, ensuring that streets, town centres, civic spaces, and key gateway routes are maintained to a high standard. This work is essential to improving the appearance and cleanliness of the local environment, supporting the Council’s Place Making priorities and its ambition to create attractive, welcoming spaces for residents, businesses, and visitors. Drivers are at the frontline of the new Street Scene service and contribute to a wide variety of day‑to‑day activities, including mechanical sweeping, litter removal, fly‑tipping response, weed control, and the cleaning of signs and gateway features. The role is responsive and varied, with tasks ranging from routine cleansing of high‑footfall areas to urgent interventions following reports of environmental issues. By working closely with dedicated town sweepers, place‑based operatives, and specialist teams, the driver helps deliver a consistent, reliable, and high‑quality service across the four main towns and surrounding communities. About you You will need: Minimum 1 years’ experience of driving commercial non-LGV vehicles. Previous Cleansing, Grounds Maintenance or Waste Management experience. An understanding of the Neighbourhood Services provided by the Local Authority Physically fit and able to carry out all manual tasks Ability to accept responsibility for staff and resources Have basic numeracy & literacy skills Ability and willingness to be trained to use specialist vehicles, other plant, machinery and power-tools. Good attitude and approach to service delivery. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate and communicate effectively with staff and members of the Public Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate Ability to use a digital device & incab technology for scheduled and reactive works.
