An opportunity has arisen within Laboratory Medicine for a Biomedical Support Worker. The successful candidate will work as part of a team, delivering laboratory results to in-patients, out-patients within our hospitals, and to GP surgeries within the Swansea Bay UHB.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and well-motivated individuals for the post of Biomedical Support Worker. The post holder will work as part of a team delivering support services for clinical and scientific staff within Laboratory Medicine.
There are various Hospital sites within SBUHB, but this post is primarily for our Morriston, Singleton and Neath/Port Talbot sites.
There is a requirement to work evenings, nights and weekends on a rota basis.
Duties will include receipt and registration of patient samples, such as blood & urine, prior to analysis, assisting in the referral of specimens to specialist laboratories and communicating laboratory information to our users.
Data entry experience is desirable for this role, keyboard skills essential.
The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
2. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power-point etc.).
Desirable criteria
3. Science at GCSE or above.
4. Understanding of Pathology service and laboratory experience.
5. IBMS Certificate of Achievement Level 1 and/or 2
6. Knowledge of hospital specialties

10. Previous experience of NHS or healthcare environment.
