Senior Compliance Counsel
Location: Cheshire (with periodic international travel)
We are seeking a Senior Compliance Counsel to join a global Legal Compliance team and play a central role in supporting and strengthening the organisation’s compliance framework across multiple regions.
This is a high-impact position suited to an experienced legal professional who combines strong technical expertise with a pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset. You will provide expert guidance on a wide range of compliance matters, lead key initiatives, and work closely with colleagues across the business to ensure policies, processes and controls remain robust and effective.
The Role
As Senior Compliance Counsel, you will advise the business on a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters while supporting the development and implementation of the global compliance programme.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing legal advice on compliance matters including sanctions and export controls, anti-corruption, competition law, antitrust and data protection
* Supporting and collaborating with members of the internal legal team
* Contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the global compliance programme
* Conducting and overseeing compliance due diligence on agents, distributors, consultants and other intermediaries
* Managing external counsel where specialist advice is required
* Reviewing the compliance aspects of contracts and tender documentation, including drafting relevant clauses and associated documentation
* Developing, reviewing and implementing compliance policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct, Gifts & Hospitality, Export Controls, Trade Sanctions, Competition Law and Data Protection
* Carrying out compliance assessments across business units and geographies, including interviews, documentation review and reporting
* Leading and supporting internal compliance investigations, including matters raised through whistleblower channels
* Supporting internal projects such as technology transformation initiatives and compliance programme enhancements
* Delivering compliance training, both online and in person
* Supporting reporting to senior leadership and the board
Requirements
* Qualified lawyer or equivalent legal qualification
* 8+ years’ PQE, including some in-house experience
* Strong working knowledge of compliance areas such as sanctions, export controls, anti-corruption, competition law and data protection
* Ability to operate independently and exercise sound judgement
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities
* Experience leading projects and working with cross-functional teams
* Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
* Willingness to undertake periodic international travel (typically 1–3 trips per year)
* A practical, commercially minded approach to compliance
