EY337 Preconstruction Manager Location: Gerrards Cross, BuckinghamshireSalary: £65,000 - £85,000 per annum DOEOverviewWe are seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead and manage the preconstruction phase for technically complex projects within sectors including Pharmaceuticals, Data Centres, Logistics, Advanced Manufacturing, and Food Production.The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate cost plans, risk management, design collaboration, and tender preparation. This role will initially be based at the Head Office in Gerrards Cross for 1 to 3 months to onboard successfully, with the option to relocate to Leeds or Birmingham thereafter.Candidates from an ex-military background are encouraged to apply, but all qualified candidates will be considered.Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the preconstruction process from initial feasibility through tender submission and design development
* Manage the production of accurate and comprehensive cost plans, budgets, and estimates
* Collaborate closely with clients, designers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure design solutions are cost-effective and buildable
* Oversee risk identification and management, maintaining detailed risk registers and mitigation plans throughout preconstruction
* Coordinate and chair preconstruction meetings, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned on project goals and scope
* Drive value engineering initiatives to optimise design, cost, and programme without compromising quality or safety
* Prepare and present tender documentation, commercial strategies, and risk assessments to senior management and clients
* Review subcontractor and supplier bids, adjudicating and negotiating terms where necessary
* Ensure smooth handover from preconstruction to project delivery teams, maintaining continuity and clarity on scope and cost
* Mentor and develop junior estimating and preconstruction staff as part of a growing team
Qualifications:
* Proven experience as a Preconstruction Manager or Senior Estimator within construction or engineering projects
* Strong knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and HVAC systems, particularly in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals or data centres
* Excellent cost planning, budgeting, and tendering skills
* Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
* Proficient with construction estimating software and Microsoft Office suite
