We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role is part of the Energy & COMAH team within the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as DEFRA, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
Team
Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, guidance and training to deliver new duties and environmental best practice.
Experience and Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, gained either by working within and/or regulating relevant processes. This will include knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
