You’re broadly defined as disabled under both acts if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long‑term negative or adverse effect on your ability to do normal daily activities. This definition includes both apparent and non‑apparent conditions and impairments, and medical conditions such as Cancer, HIV or Multiple Sclerosis.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

As an Executive Editor in BBC Local two days are never the same. From overseeing creative programming to ensuring everyone on your teams can deliver great work – there is never a dull moment. Running BBC Radio Humberside & BBC Radio Lincolnshire is an opportunity to lead two talented audio teams and ensure they continue to meet local audience needs on both linear and digital platforms. If you have great vision, you’re fiercely creative and are an energetic, resilient leader – this could be the role for you.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

BBC Yorkshire and Lincolnshire is a region that prides itself on its close relationship with local communities and the quality of creative content it delivers. You’ll be joining a leadership team of high achievers who are passionate about where they live and have a track record of leading with bold thinking and creative risk‑taking.

BBC Local is the front door to the BBC, so if you like finding and developing new local talent off‑air this is a great place to be. We’re also future‑focussed – running BBC Radio Humberside & Radio Lincolnshire offers a great opportunity to experiment with new ideas for linear and digital audio. It will also provide a chance to put all your people coaching skills to good use in regular team and one‑to‑one feedback.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

* Oversee the audio teams in Hull and Lincolnshire, building on their recent successes and setting a vision in line with the divisional strategy.
* Hold regular team briefs and individual meetings, ensuring both teams are aware of their KPIs/targets and have the support they need to deliver.
* Maintain a deep understanding of target audiences for both stations and develop ideas for reaching underserved groups.
* Split time across both sites, prioritising where focus is required next.
* Provide inspirational leadership, support career development and talent retention, acting as a role model.
* Collaborate with other regional leaders to maximise content impact and innovate pitches for digital platforms.
* Role‑model BBC values, fostering a positive, engaged and supportive culture.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Editorial leadership experience
* Track record for leading creativity and innovation
* Demonstrable understanding of audiences to BBC Local and the opportunities for growth
* First‑class communication skills
* Energy and resilience

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

* Evidence of changing workplace culture, challenging poor behaviour/performance
* Experience managing change

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
