JOB DESCRIPTION: School Psychologist I / Darlington County Schools
Note: Negative TB Test results must be on file with Human Resources prior to starting work.
SALARY: Salary and work year to be determined by the Board
FLSA Status: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Education
JOB GOAL: To improve the educational experience of those students who have difficulty learning or who can benefit from preventive psychological services through a program of diagnosis and appropriate follow-up.
Education And Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
* Master's degree or higher
* Valid certification as School Psychologist I
* Must obtain Read to Succeed Endorsement
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities
* Review referral information to determine the need for psycho-educational evaluation and/or follow-up.
* Implement specified procedures for evaluation of students referred, including the completion of written reports of test results and the interpretations.
* Offer educational recommendations for individual students based on test results, observations, and background information.
* Serve as a member of the school placement committee following the evaluation of a student to offer information helpful in assuring services for the student.
* Participate in committee meetings to develop the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students identified for Exceptional Education.
* Assist Exceptional Education teachers in effectively planning and carrying out the IEPs for students.
* Provide consultation to the parents, teachers, students, principals, and other school personnel.
* Complete follow-up studies with teachers to determine if recommendations and/or IEPs have proven effective for the student.
* Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of staff development.
* Assist the Director in the implementation of appropriate procedures for referral, evaluation, and placement of students in Exceptional Education Programs.
* Conduct applied research to gain information to assist the local school and/or district in program planning and development.
* Consult with the Director for continued planning and improvement in the areas of psychological services and Exceptional Education Services.
* Assume responsibilities for own professional growth and development; for keeping up with the literature, research findings, and improved techniques; and for attending appropriate professional meetings and conventions.
