Second Stage HGV Body Builder Annual Salary: £39,000-£44,200 Location: Darlington Job Type: Full-time (50 hours per week) Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm; occasional Saturdays may be requiredJoin our client's team as a skilled HGV Body Builder, responsible for carrying out second-stage builds on Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs). This role involves fitting, fabricating, and assembling commercial vehicle bodies such as tippers, curtainsiders, box bodies, beavertails, skip loaders, hook loaders, cranes, and bespoke conversions. The successful candidate will ensure all work meets regulatory, safety, and quality standards before delivery. Day-to-day of the role: Construct and install second-stage bodies and ancillary equipment (e.g., cranes, tail lifts, hydraulics). Perform fabrication tasks including cutting, drilling, welding (MIG/TIG), and assembly of steel/aluminium components. Complete basic auto-electrical work such as wiring looms and lighting systems. Ensure compliance with safety standards and conduct pre-delivery checks. Maintain accurate build documentation and communicate effectively with team members.Required Skills & Qualifications: Previous experience in body building, coachbuilding, or heavy commercial vehicle fabrication. Strong mechanical aptitude and confident fabrication skills. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and follow build instructions. Skilled in safe use of workshop tools and machinery. Desirable: Experience in HGV second-stage manufacturing or specialist builds, welding qualifications, knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems, certifications for FLT, overhead crane, or MEWP, and relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., NVQ in Fabrication or Vehicle Body Building).Benefits: Opportunities for professional development and training.
