Overview
Senior DevOps Engineer role at Pax8 in Bristol, United Kingdom. The role can be remote with occasional on-site presence. You’ll join our global DevOps team and help design, build, automate, test, and manage our software systems, contributing to a transformation from a centralized monolith to a dynamic microservices ecosystem.

Responsibilities
* Increase developer velocity and system reliability by applying software development expertise, addressing reliability concerns with engineering teams, and analyzing issues affecting cloud infrastructure.
* Standardize and implement baseline visibility across systems; embed observability in design to build resilient, dependable systems.
* Collaborate with Architecture and Platform teams to design automated solutions that reduce repetitive tasks, improve self-healing, and enable developers to focus on product features.
* Prioritize security by implementing secure solutions, addressing issues proactively, and sharing best practices to minimize disruptions to product development.
* Mentor teammates, support on-call rotations, and contribute to design guidance and project work.
* Participate in incident response and post-incident analysis to drive improvements in system reliability and rapid recovery.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience supporting application development, preferably with microservices and Java-based web platforms; proven software development experience.
* Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., Java, TypeScript, Python, Groovy, Kotlin) and experience with frameworks such as Spring, Spring Boot, JUnit, Mockito, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and related tools.
* Experience with AI integration in the SDLC and strong observability experience using tools like New Relic, Sumo Logic, or Honeycomb.
* Strong knowledge of core AWS services (including EKS, RDS, MSK); Docker and Kubernetes expertise with emphasis on operational reliability.
* Experience with IaC and configuration management (Terraform, Git), and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
* Experience in Lean/Agile environments using Jira, ClickUp, Asana or similar; ability to meet project commitments with urgency.
* Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused mindset; ability to adapt to new opportunities and challenges with energy and integrity.
* Ability to work in the country with valid right to work.
Work Environment & Benefits
* Hybrid and Home Office working; 9:00–17:30 Monday to Friday.
* Competitive salary up to £78,000 per annum, plus bonus, benefits, and pension.
