Purpose of this Role
You will be part of a dynamic and forward‑thinking Building Control team, responsible for all aspects of the organisation's Building Control function within Monmouthshire. The role involves processing Building Regulation Applications efficiently, conducting site visits as required, managing dangerous structures and demolition work, and performing related legislative duties. You will adhere to industry standards, codes and rules, and collaborate with other service areas to deliver a unified service to customers.

Responsibilities
1. Carry out the day‑to‑day function of Building Control, ensuring a high‑quality service and maintaining CPD and Registration Class.
2. Carry out site visits and plans vetting.
3. Act for Building Control colleagues in their absence and control an area of the County as designated.
4. Produce relevant technical and administrative reports.
5. Analyse cases and gather evidence for potential enforcement cases, pursuing them with Legal Services through formal action when required.
6. Promote the service and support the Section with marketing initiatives, including meetings and technical seminars with clients.
7. Support the networked organisation by integrating relevant service areas into the development and build process.
8. Exchange information between officers and developments regarding changing requirements and regulation updates.
9. Follow safe systems of working, ensuring health, safety and welfare on site and away from the office.
10. Exercise confidentiality on all matters relating to Building Control, maintaining a high level of discretion.

Eligibility and Qualifications
1. Appropriate Building Control surveying qualification at least to HNC/HND level or part/full membership of MRICS, MCABE or equivalent, preferably class 2A, 2B and 2D Building Inspector or working towards this level.
2. Relevant Building Control experience operating in a building control environment.
3. Practical experience of providing high‑quality customer service.
4. Effective written and oral communication skills.
5. Working knowledge of a wide range of IT applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
6. Experience organising and prioritising a wide-ranging workload.
7. Previous experience of supporting and supervising staff; ability to be supervised.
8. Interpersonal skills and ability to work alone or within a multi‑disciplined team.
9. Ability to work with an open mind across other service areas using a Systems Thinking methodology.
10. Awareness of the competitive marketplace within which building control operates.
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
12. Recognition of the need to actively market the building control service, including meetings with clients and technical seminars.
13. Possession of a valid driving licence and own vehicle or appropriate transport.
Desirable Qualifications
Welsh language skills are desirable.
