By integrating battery storage, smart energy management, and ultra-fast DC charging, TUAL delivers seamless electrification where traditional grid capacity falls short. Working with enterprise customers across Europe, TUAL is transforming the productivity and profitability of electric commercial vehicle fleets through a portfolio of intelligent, software-defined, cloud and IoT-enabled charging solutions.
The Role
The Engineering Director is TUAL’s senior technical leader and design authority. This is a foundational role: part co-founder, part system-builder. You will cascade ambition into action, creating the engineering backbone that transforms a promising product into a global platform.
This is not a “spanners down” role. While you won’t spend your days designing boards or writing code, you’ll coach directly, dive into detail, and lead by example. You will establish world-class engineering systems for design, iteration, testing and compliance — ensuring our technology is not only breakthrough, but also bankable.
What You’ll Do
* Technology Direction & Compliance
o Own the technology roadmap and architecture, balancing ambition with disciplined execution.
o Act as design authority across software, systems, mechanical, power, and cloud.
o Ensure full-stack compliance: electrical safety, EMC, grid codes, battery safety, cyber, interoperability (e.g. OCPP).
o Capture and manage intellectual property, embedding innovation and AI/ML in products and operations.
* Engineering Systems & Delivery
o Build engineering processes from scratch: design reviews, test protocols, release management.
o Drive reliability, quality assurance and iteration speed to deliver 99.99% uptime in the field.
o Oversee outsourced design partners and suppliers: set specs, qualify vendors, manage delivery, ensure compliance.
o Lead lifecycle from prototype through industrialisation, manufacturing and post-implementation review.
Your Background
* Proven record building and leading cross-disciplinary engineering teams.
* Start-up tested: professionalised technical systems under tight resources.
* Strong track record of delivery: roadmaps, system builds, on-time releases.
* Deep exposure to energy systems, mobility or distributed assets (not necessarily high-power charging).
* Supplier and partner management experience, from spec definition to QA.
* Degree in engineering, computer science, or related field. Advanced degrees welcome.
