This includes engineering design, automation, quality planning, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning, ensuring projects meet plant requirements on time and within budget. Provide technical engineering support for new and improved processes and products, addressing safety, environmental, and automation considerations to drive efficiency, compliance, and sustainability. Additionally, lead the site Maintenance function, delivering proactive and reactive multi-skilled support across all equipment and facilities, and overseeing planned maintenance schedules to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution.
·Stand in for Operations Manager
·Leadership of direct reports to ensure the Engineering department is working efficiently and effectively.
·Improve the performance, results and the development of the team through all aspects of the employee life cycle: recruitment, induction, appraisals, goal and objective setting, 1:1s, personal development planning, training, coaching and attendance management.
·Motivate and support providing guidance to people development
Engineering Technical Support
·Lead site and plant operational reliability and effectiveness, between failure and downtime reduction, and manage and implement improvement plans, driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
·Lead the production automation PLC programme, ensuring successful delivery from concept to implementation.
·Ensure all planned maintenance programmes are completed on schedule to minimise downtime and maintain asset reliability.
·Organise and oversee trials of new production equipment, materials, and processes.
·Develop innovative solutions to unique problems
·Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems
·Log and analyse production trial results, identifying and implementing corrective actions where required.
·Research and evaluate new processes and equipment, organising supplier trials on-site at Tipton or at supplier premises.
·Develop and embed best practices, standard routines, and innovative solutions to increase current production rates, enhance quality, and ensure consistent output.
Site and Facilities
·Deliver site transformation activities, including major projects
·Ensure all site infrastructure is maintained in a safe, compliant, and fully operational condition through effective use of facilities engineers and contractors.
·Drive continuous improvement in site safety standards.
·Lead and deliver site uplift activities, prioritising safety-critical items, using both internal resources and external contractors where required.
·Implement and manage a regular site uplift programme to maintain and enhance facility standards.
·Log operations based continuous improvement activities - costs/benefits and facilitate completion of actions.
·Map the production processes and identify and document Non Value Adding/Value Adding activities. Filter the Non Value Adding activities and eliminate them based on ease/impact.
·Monitor service consumption by plant - gas/water/air/steam and interpret the date and report on Key performance Indicators.
·Investigate low energy opportunities - heat pumps/photovoltaic cells, etc.
·Administer the 6S programme in Engineering area - review audit questions/ monitor operations scores and actions list.
·Benchmark processes against similar activities being undertaken within our international affiliates
Training
·Support & deliver training relevant to basic maintenance.
·Provide process documentation and operating instructions.
·Work with NPD and Shift Managers to generate manufacturing methods/instructions of new equipment and processes.
Projects
·Support CAPEX submissions (costings, project benefits, timescales).
·Project management for agreed projects.
·Provide support information to enable fixed overhead allocations.
Other
·Perform engineering risk assessments and PUWER risk assessments.
·Support customer complaint analysis and 8D report completion.
·Ensure best practice, housekeeping, Health & Safety Policies and legislative requirements are adhered to at all times.
·Undertake any other tasks and duties as required by the Company.
·Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred, or HNC, BTEC Professional Level 4 Award or equivalent qualifications.
·Experience of leading and developing (multi-skilled) people
·Strong PC skills and experience of packages
·Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
·Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (IOSH required)
