Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Digital Services team as a Infrastructure Server Engineer. This role is offered under Annex 21, meaning the successful candidate will be supported through a structured development programme, with progression to the full banded role upon successful completion of agreed competencies and training.

This pivotal position plays a key role in supporting and maintaining the core infrastructure that underpins the successful delivery of the organisation’s Digital Strategy.

Main duties of the job

1. Co-ordinate the installation and commissioning of enhancements such as new services, computer system upgrades.
2. • Plan and test disaster recovery for all business-critical systems supported by the Infrastructure Team in line with Standard
Operating Procedures.
3. • Ensure that scheduled work is completed within timescales to agreed quality standards and in line with departmental procedures.
Management of services, resources and policy
4. Ensure all Infrastructure systems are managed in accordance with Systems Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Secure System
Policies (SSPs).
5. Propose changes to improve the existing functionality and introduce new technologies for Infrastructure systems.
6. Produce support documentation and policies for new systems to ensure operational handover from the project phase.
7. Technical representation on IT and telecommunications projects as required by management.
8. Responsible for the proper safe use of IT equipment whilst administering/repairing/upgrading in line with relevant health and
safety policies.
9. Responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading of IT equipment in line with departmental procedures.
10. Specify and recommend Infrastructure hardware and software for purchase as directed by management.
11. Obtain authorisation for the repair and purchase of new expensive IT equipment and software managed by the Infrastructure
support team.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria

12. Educated to Degree Level in a relevant IT subject or equivalent
13. Experience plus Specialist knowledge to post graduate level
14. VCP (VMWare Certified Professional)
15. ITIL Foundation qualification accredited or working knowledge of service delivery, change control and risk management.
16. Sufficient knowledge of computer hardware to support fault diagnosis to component level. • Operating systems including all current Microsoft Desktop OS. • Server Operating Systems including Windows NT4 and 200x. • Active Directory user and computer management, Group Policies. • Microsoft WSUS or SUS Server and Client Configuration. • Enterprise Anti-Virus Installation, Configuration and Updating. • Citrix Server, VMware 8.x, SAN Configuration, LAN Troubleshooting and TCP/IP Desktop and Server Configuration. • Microsoft Office Suites, Printer and other peripheral diagnostics and connectivity, Networking topologies, O365 familiarity to include Entra / Exchange, Defender and Intune and SQL familiarity to include Windows clustering.
17. Undertake education & training over an 18-month period to achieve the above following competency assessed monthly. As a min be Educated to Degree Level in a relevant IT subject or equivalent experience. Up to date working knowledge and hands on experience in installing and maintaining Windows Server Operating Systems, SAN/NAS technology, VMware and relevant backup technology.

19. Knowledge of IT systems within a healthcare environment

20. Excellent problem-solving and analysis skills with ability to think clearly and logically.
21. Good letter, report and documentation writing skills.
22. Excellent interpersonal skills – able to elicit information from users, provide telephone support, advise and coach staff in the use of IT. Explain technical issues in a clear and concise manner.
23. Ability to work under own initiative and manage own and others’ time/priorities effectively motivate as well as build and promote team working. Ability to adapt to change and keep up with new technologies using own initiative.
24. Ability to work within Change Management guidelines (ITIL).

Desirable criteria

25. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in Welsh
26. Ability to travel within geographical area timely to meet the needs of the service.
27. Able to work hours flexibly.
28. Must be pro-active and self-motivated in learning new technologies and techniques in support of the organisations IT requirements by formal training, self-study and practical experience.
