Job Description:

This is a Central Office role in London (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days in our office / nurseries)

Lead comms that matters

At the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF), we are proud of our education and care across our 40+ nurseries across London. We are the best rated nursery group in London. We’re also a charitable social enterprise on a mission to give every child the best start in life.

This isn’t a general marketing job. It’s for a comms expert – someone who knows what to say, when to say it, and how to get it heard; internally and externally.

As our Head of Communications, you’ll reshape and deliver how we communicate with potential and existing parents/carers, as well as future and internal colleagues. You’ll manage reputation, boost our visibility, and make sure our messages land with heart and purpose.

A significant part of this role is focused on external PR for our parent/carer and future colleague audiences. You’ll lead the charge in how we present ourselves to the public, building trust, connection and recognition across our communities.

This is a brilliant time to join. We’re ready to reimagine how we do comms. You’ll have the freedom to reinvent, add new processes and scale; knowing this is all for the children and families we serve.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Be the best writer and our go to comms expert in LEYF
* Collaborate with teams across LEYF – from nurseries to HR. Building deep relationships across a range of people and disciplines – bringing clarity and kindness to every message
* PR– 50% of the role
* Lead our external consumer PR and media strategy to raise awareness among families and future employees Find and grow the right media relationships for where our audiences are Write standout, newsworthy content that lands with warmth and impact Collaborate with our external PR consultant and CEO on brand-level visibility
* Parent Comms Advise on and write parent communications across the business
* Internal Comms Co-create our internal comms strategy but most importantly deliver it Partner with colleagues across the People Team, nurseries and operations to shape strong internal comms
* Social Media Set the social media direction, deploy your editorial expertise across channels, and keep us focused, timely and on message Find and collaborate with suitable influencers Align with our recruitment and occupancy marketing leads to connect campaigns across channels
* Crisis Comms & Govt relations Be the point person in a crisis, with calm, confident response Establish government/media contact relationships and work alongside our PR consultant & CEO to amplify our external voice
* Track, measure and analyse our communication tactics & impact
* Be a brilliant writer – clear, warm and confident
* Have deep comms expertise – PR, internal comms, social, media handling
* You love and are brilliant at PR – especially for the consumer. Maybe you have some PR agency experience orit's made up a large part of roles
* Advise, influence and be credible – no direct reports, but lots of impact
* Get things done, be quick to respond, calm under pressure and flexible
* Bring ideas, great judgement and structure, and enjoy building our comms refresh
* Work well with people – kind, open, trustworthy, relationship focused
* Be not afraid to challenge, and not too senior to deliver
* Be happy running your own function, collaborating within and across departments
* Want to learn our sector fast and ready to apply your comms toolkit meaningfully

Why You’ll Love It Here

* Be part of something bigger: We’re serious about children, community and changing the system
