Planning Manager – Rail & Structures
Location: Leeds
We are seeking an experienced Planning Manager with a strong background in rail and civil structures to join a major transportation infrastructure programme in the North of England.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a high-profile rail upgrade project, contributing to the successful delivery of complex, large-scale works that will enhance critical transport networks.
The Role
As a Planning Manager, you will be responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining robust project schedules, ensuring alignment with the wider programme. You will identify critical risks and issues, propose solutions, and support the successful delivery of key milestones.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors to develop and maintain the delivery programme
* Ensure a clear understanding of delivery strategy, dependencies, risks, changes, and progress
* Produce and maintain regular progress reports, highlighting risks, issues, and solutions
* Keep key stakeholders informed across all levels of the project
* Contribute to risk management processes, including risk registers and schedule risk analysis
* Identify, assess, and communicate programme changes and their impacts
* Work closely with other planners to coordinate critical interfaces and dependencies
* Lead planning workshops and interface meetings
* Promote best practices within the planning function
* Support, mentor, and develop junior team members and the wider planning community
About You
* Strong communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships
* Proven ability to identify, challenge, and clearly present project risks and solutions
* Extensive experience in civil engineering and/or construction, particularly large-scale infrastructure projects
* Demonstrable experience delivering complex civil structures, ideally within a Tier 1 contractor environment
* Good working knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly Clauses 31 & 32
* Experience across the full project lifecycle (desirable), especially design & build in rail and structures
* Advanced user of Primavera P6 planning software
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites
