Working collaboratively with Clinical Contact Centre (CCC) colleagues, the principle role of the Senior Paramedic within the Major Trauma Desk is the remote clinical leadership of ambulance clinicians in the management of major trauma and critical illness.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
With a proportion of rostered time spent in a patient facing capacity, the Senior Paramedic will work to an extended scope of paramedic practice. This will involve working at a level over and above that of a paramedic with a skill set suitable of the management of the critically ill and injured. This would include an extended drug formulary and further clinical interventions. Delivering clinical care alongside other frontline ambulance clinicians, the Senior Paramedic will be the lead Paramedic and have responsibility to ensure excellent patient care is delivered at all times working closely with EMRTS (Emergency Medical Retrieval & Transfer Service) Air Support Desk staff.

ESSENTIAL
Essential criteria
* A degree level of education (in relevant subject), or equivalent demonstrable experience
* HCPC Registered Paramedic including up to date completion of the band 5-6 competencies.
* Ambulance emergency response driving
* Evidence of relevant CPD
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle complex and potentially contentious situations
* Ability to work flexibly in an environment where the work pattern is unpredictable and requiring frequent periods of concentration to meet objectives to tight deadlines
* Effective team player
* Ability to work autonomously to agreed objectives with minimum supervision
* A thorough working knowledge of current issues in the NHS especially drivers relating to integration of emergency and urgent care
* Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills
* Able to assess risks, anticipate difficulties and successfully address them
* Committed to and understands the benefit of staff engagement and interaction
Desirable criteria
* In possession of or willingness to undertake level 6/7 education aligned to role objectives (clinical leadership) within an agreed timeframe
* Evidence of further Higher Education study
* Teaching or Mentorship Qualification
* Knowledge and understanding of current health and social care agenda
* Post-registration qualification in Trauma or Critical Care
* Ability to speak Welsh
