The role We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Data & Insights Manager to support the firm's innovation and digital transformation agenda. Reporting to the Head of Innovation, this role has firmwide responsibility for data governance, legal research platforms and insight generation. The Data & Insights Manager will lead a virtual, federated network of data owners across practice areas and business services, ensuring the firm maximises the value of it's data and knowledge assets to enhance client service and improve operational efficiency. The role will act as the operational lead for the firm's legal research and knowledge solutions, including LexisNexis, Westlaw, Practical Law and FromCounsel, with a particular focus on leveraging their AI capabilities to improve efficiency and generate actionable insights. The responsibilities of the role include ensuring these platforms are optimally configured, effectively adopted and fully leveraged across the firm. The role will also support wider innovation and digital transformation initiatives by promoting the effective use of AI internally, delivering training on AI-enabled legal databases and tools, and using data to strengthen decision-making and legal service delivery. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering data and insight initiatives that drive measurable business outcomes, with the ability to improve how data is captured, governed and used across practice areas and business services, and experience in leveraging legal technology solutions to improve workflows and generate actionable insights that strengthen decision-making firmwide. Key Responsibilities Data Leadership & Governance Lead and coordinate a virtual team comprised of data owners representing each practice area and business services team. Develop and maintain a firmwide data and knowledge inventory, documenting what data and knowledge the firm holds, where it resides, its format, quality and potential value. Support the firm's AI and analytics strategy by ensuring data is suitable, reliable and well-governed for current and future use cases. Identify and drive initiatives to improve the firm's data quality, consistency, standardisation and data accessibility across practice areas and business services. Legal Research & Knowledge platforms Act as the operational lead for legal research and knowledge platforms including LexisNexis, Practical Law, Westlaw, and FromCounsel. Lead on platform configuration, optimisation and ongoing enhancement, with particular emphasis on AI-enabled research features. Design and deliver training programmes to ensure effective adoption and confident use of legal research solutions by lawyers at all levels, with a focus on their AI-powered features. Develop guidance, playbooks and learning resources to help lawyers maximise the value of these platforms in their day-to-day work. Monitor usage, adoption and effectiveness, using insights to drive continuous improvement and inform strategic discussions with the Head of Innovation and Knowledge teams. Innovation & Legal Technology Identify opportunities to improve legal processes and workflows through technology, data and automation. Support and, where appropriate, lead innovation projects, including: Assessing the suitability of new legal technology solutions Identifying new use cases for existing platforms Supporting implementation, rollout and adoption Assist in managing the firm's pipeline of innovation initiatives and tracking benefits and outcomes. Insights, Adoption & Change Management Analyse data and metrics to generate actionable insights. Work with the Legal Technologist to monitor adoption of legal technology solutions firmwide, including their effectiveness and overall impact. Capture and share success stories and best practice to promote engagement with innovation initiatives. Stay abreast of legal market trends, emerging technologies and developments in data and AI, translating these into actionable opportunities for the firm. Technical Skills & Experience Proven experience in data governance, data management or analytics, with the ability to work with stakeholders across business functions to understand and leverage organisational data, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment. Proven experience with legal research platforms such as LexisNexis and Practical Law, including their AI-enabled features, is required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to extract relevant information quickly and effectively. Strong familiarity with Legal Technology solutions, including document automation tools, e-discovery tools, contract management platforms and contract review software is prerequisite. Experience with GenAI platforms is preferred. Experience with Microsoft Power Apps and Power Automate is beneficial. Experience with low-code/no-code platforms such as Neota, Bryter, BettyBlocks is beneficial. Qualifications Advanced degree or certification is preferred. Previous experience in a similar role within a law firm or a professional services firm in the legal sector is required. Essential Soft Skills Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly articulating the benefits of legal research and knowledge solutions in non-technical terms. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective training programmes on knowledge and legal technology solutions to legal professionals.
